Winter skin and hair become scouring pads

by Linda
(Boston, MA, USA)

Winter months in the Northeast can be brutal on skin - face, hands, all over. Especially as we get older our skin and hair needs more care during the cold winter months.

Most of us are on the go constantly and don't really have time for detailed daily routines for our skin and hair. We still need to shower during the winter, but the showers seem to double the dryness of skin and of hair.

Then there is the issue of using a hari dryer - Mom always said don't go out in the cold with wet hair. How do we find a balance for our skin and hair? Are creams and lotions enough? Should there be some special addition to our diet to help moisten our skin and hair?

How can we make sure we are keeping our hands moist when we need to constantly wash our hands when cooking, using the rest room, and going from the cold outdoors to the dry indoors during winter?

My hands get so dry, cracked and sore during the winter months. They become rough and it is unpleasant to shake someone's hand for fear of their thinking they are shaking hands with a scouring pad.

There must be some simple solutions for this yearly dilemma. This discussion forum would be a wonderful place to read about tried and true solutions that other women have used.

Thanks,
Linda

Winter Skin Care
by: Zac

Linda,

I know what you mean. Not only is the winter weather harsh, but our homes are much dryer due to our heaters running so much.

Using a moisturizer right after bathing or washing your hands when skin is well hydrated will help. (we got a real good tea tree lotion in our featured products)

Also, it is a good idea to humidify your house whether it is an add on to your furnace, or a free standing humidifier.

Also, before going out into the winter weather, apply some lotion to your trouble spots. (hands, face, etc)

One more tip, is we tend to drink more coffee, tea, and other hot caffeine products during the winter. Try drinking at least as much water as you do caffeine products to counteract the dehydration caused by caffeine.

Just a few quick tips, Linda. Basically we need to take a little extra care, and put more effort into our skin care during the winter.

Best wishes,
Zac
