Trimming Hair is a must

by Jackie
(New Jersey)

I have had long hair since middle school. I always wanted it to look like the actress' hair in commercials and tv shows. I thought that if I just kept growing it, it would miraculously look wonderful.

My roommate in college had beautiful long hair. I started to buy the same products she used and no luck my hair was still not as beautiful as hers.

Then I noticed that she was frequently getting her hair trimmed, just a tiny bit every six weeks or so. I started getting a trim every six weeks to two months and WOW what a difference!.

Exception to the rule....

I used to believe that constant trimming would promote my hair growth. WRONG! Each time I trimmed my hair it only grew back to the original length before it needed another trim for the split ends. I was told by a professional stylist and cosmetologist that it is NOT necessary to trim your hair for it to grow. In fact, your hair will look better, but the hair grows from the inside and it's always either growing(Anagen), resting (catogen) or shedding (telogen) at various times throughout your hair. The best thing to do is take proper vitamins and supplements, drink PLENTY, PLENTY of water and get a good amount of exercise. You don't have to go to the gym. Just by walking a short distance each day will give you optimal exercise. Don't get me wrong - it's ok to trim your hair to keep it looking good, but it does not promote growth. Even when your hair splits all the way to the roots, it still grows!!! Lol.
