Scaly Scalp Mystery

by Pat

OK, brainstorming on unusual causes of scales on the scalp would be a real help. I get patches with thick layers of dead skin that look like a flat wart that will eventually loosen and peel off in just a few spots. They drive me crazy and nothing but nothing has helped!

I've seen two different dermatologists with the not so helpful diagnosis from each of essentially "it's some kind of crust condition." They prescribed steroids (applied to the crusts and taken by mouth), antihistamines (ditto), stinky tar and sulfur glop and anti fungal drugs. They all worked just as well as tap water and not an inch better.

Has anyone seen or had anything like this with a real diagnosis? There's no redness or inflammation, just some itching and layers of dead skin like a thin callous. A couple of them have been there for years and others eventually go away.

Any help is appreciated. One tip that does work at least on the itch is deep conditioning. For some reason herbal essences conditioner does the best job. You need to leave it on five minutes, not the one minute it tells you to use.

Any help would be appreciated,
Pat

I mean how dry is the air in your part of the world? I had the same problem chunks of dandriff! My doctor said I was washing my hair too much and drying out my scalp? I believe in being clean and continue to wash everyday- but my barber told me to soak my head with olive oil, after I soak it I run a fine tooth comb through it to snag all the problem areas then soak it again, I am down to soaking once a week, and the problem has cleared up about 80%. good luck out there.

Scaly Scalp Problems

Pat,

I would recommend a good tea tree oil shampoo to restore your hair follicles and scalp to their proper PH levels.

Tea tree oil has natural punitive penetrating properties as well, which will help dead skin cells slough off better.

Also, for the absolute best scalp therapy I highly recommend FlakeFree therapeutic hair gel formulated with zinc, tea tree, peppermint oil, and numerous herbal ingredients.

The reason it works so much better than ANY therapeutic shampoo is because the active ingredients stay in continual contact with your scalp. As opposed to shampoos which you rinse off within moments.

I used to have terrible scalp problems but since using FlakeFree my scalp remains clear as a bell.

Here is a link to it on our site:

Best wishes,
Zac
P.S. Pat let us know how it works for you will you?
