Henna is the best!

by Morgan
(Philadelphia, PA)

On Saturday I spent two hours highlighting my hair with caca rouge henna that I bought from Lush Cosmetics. I use henna because it is natural, covers grey really well, and lasts longer than chemical dyes.

The process of dying my hair with henna is somewhat time-consuming. The process begins with chopping up the henna dye into blocks and placing boiling water over it. Then the water has to sit for at least thirty minutes, and it has to be mixed into a yogurt-type consistency. I then applied coffee grinds and paprika to the henna to make a richer and more complex color. I then mixed it up.

After this process is completed, it is applied to clean, dry hair. It is then left on the hair for one to three hours, or until the color is achieved.

When I dyed my hair, I used a paintbrush to apply the henna. I wanted an all-over hair color with my natural color showing underneath. I then put a shower cap over it, and left it on for an hour.

When I rinsed out the henna, I had to shampoo my hair three times. It took me a while to rinse it out, and when I took my first glimpse at my hair, I was not confident that the dye took.

However, after I looked in the mirror and looked at my hair when it was dried, I realized that the dye took, and I was pleasantly pleased with the results.

The girls at work noticed my hair. They then complemented me on it, and enjoyed the fact that the change was slight, but not drastic.

Personally, I love using henna on my hair. I would do it again! I like that it is natural and healthy. In addition, the color looks great, and it lasts longer than chemical dyes.
