Hammer Toe Surgery?

by Becky Hermanson
(St.Hts., MI)

I visited a foot doctor yesterday and she diagnosed me with hammertoe. Her suggestion was to cut the tendon on the top of the foot to straighten it out. Your suggestion would be most welcome!

Depends on the severity of your condition Becky.

You could try our toe brace and see if the correction, comfort and protection are sufficient in your case to warrant bypassing surgery.

I have had reports from our readers that their condition didn't improve with surgery, but every case is different.

Best wishes,
Zac

my left foot
by: Mrs embarrassed : (

Hi Wanda,

I have been having the same problem with my left foot since I was 16yrs old, I am now 50 and I am at my wits end. I have always been embrassed of my feet often hiding them in shoes which cover my toes. I have attended endless hospital and clinic appointments and requested intensive treatment, to which they have refused stating that it may make matters worse. At present I am recieving treatment every six weeks at the clinic- for the ball of foot in addition to this my skin is so hard, dry, and very painful.

Hammer Toe and Psoriasis ... any connection?
by: Wanda

I seem to have the same problem as you. On my left foot, second toe from big toe, middle joint is popped up which seems to pull on a tendon that affects the ball of my foot. Directly under, on the bottom of my foot, a callous has formed and it is always somewhat painful. I've tried stretching my foot with exercise and massage but it is no better. I want to avoid surgery if at all possible. I also have psoriasis ... I wonder if that condition is hand in hand with hammer toes. My mom had both conditions, no bunions, but psoriasis that affected the nails. I would appreciate your comments.
