Finding much shorter clumps of hair

by Kaycee
(UK)

Hi guys,

I've got naturally mid-brown wavy hair that I have been dying black for years. It's a couple of inches below shoulder length, with some layers about chin level. I also have an asymmetric side fringe. I straighten it every day or once every two days and use a heat protection spray.

A few months ago, I discovered on top of my head a small clump of hair that was curling a bit more than the rest does when my hair is wet and drying naturally. On closer inspection, it turned out that this clump of hair was only a couple of inches long. I was a little perturbed but generally manage to hide it OK.

Then a couple of days ago, I was messing about with my fringe when I felt a rough bit of hair at the top. On inspection in front of a mirror, I found another small clump of hair which was only a couple of centimeters long, which was kinked.

I wouldn't say I over-style my hair - certainly no more now than I have for several years (I'm 22), I shampoo and condition most days (same regularity as ever), and whilst I straighten my hair, it's never to the point my hair is actually poker-straight, just merely to tidy it up a bit.

I've heard of hair falling out when it's unhealthy, but can't find any advice anywhere on clumps of hair that just seem to snap close to my scalp? I'm concerned this is going to keep happening!

Any advice much appreciated,
Kaycee

Short Clumps

I have had alopecia on and off for the passed 10 years(1 or 2 bald spots the size of a quarter). When my hair grows back out it curls up in the way you described. You might have had a bald spot and not realized it.
