discoid lupus

Hi Folks ,
Am wondering if you have any advice for discoid lupus ? I have a few bald spots on my head , hair will come out sometimes with skin patch (as if I had waxed my scalp) . Wondering if there are safer alternatives out there than the much harsher (anti maralial drugs, steroids) that my doctor has suggested .
