Could stretch marks be related to heredity/ethnic group?

by jdc
(Texas)

I was curious to know if getting stretch marks could be related to heredity and factors such as a person's ethnic group.

I am Italian and I noticed that I didn't get stretch marks with my pregnancy. My mom, sister, and maternal grandmother didn't either. I used an inexpensive cocoa butter lotion and I think my sister and mom might have. I doubt that my grandmother did.

I have heard cases of other people who have used lotions and it didn’t help at all, which makes me wonder about the heredity/ethnic factor.

Please let me know if you've ever heard anything about this.
